Our story
A couple of friends, a lot of tallow, and no plan to stop.
It started with a couple of friends and a candle problem.
- It started with candles
We were making tallow candles for ourselves, because we weren’t happy with what goes into most store-bought candles. Tallow burns simple and clean, so we made our own.
- Which led to skincare
Then we started using tallow on our skin. We made it for our friends and family to use, and it worked really well.
- Which led to lotion and hair cream
That turned into body lotion. Then hair cream.
- Which led to liquid soap
Then came liquid soap, and we didn’t look back. We’ve got a lot more ideas for tallow-based products, and we’re just getting started.
So, about that name.
Why Basic Budda?

People have used tallow for thousands of years, in food and on the body. It was the original butter, so we wanted a play on the word butter.

The problem: every name with butter in it was already taken. So we went with Budda. Yes, we know it’s weird. Hey, we’re not marketing guys.

And Basic, because that is what we are doing: going back to the basics.
